School uniforms - good or bad?
The-Untold-Story 245.5 week(s) ago
I voted good. =P

... 245.0 week(s) ago
In a way they're good because someone can't make fun of you for the clothes you wear. But, in a way, they're bad too.Everyone would be wearing the same thing so it would be really boring and everyone would look like clones of each other.

When I was in last year of high-school, they held a student vote to see if we should implement school uniforms. The thing is, the policy would not be implemented for at least 2 years...

So most of the seniors voted in favor of the uniforms (to inflict them on all the smartass juniors), and the juniors, as one might expect, couldn't care less about voting for anything so their turnout was quite low.

End result: by the time my sister went through, they had school uniforms :P

I went to a Proper Catholic High School, with actual nuns and everything. We had school uniforms - I had to wear dress pants/shirt, tie, and a blazer every day.

We had fun every day. We had extremely creative and funny friends. We had a strong arts program but also some of the best science and math scores in the country. Our drama group went to national competitions. We had a lot of free-thinkers and independent people.

Did the school uniforms make us better? I don't know... Maybe we got the "right" kind of student at our school...but I don't think that's it - we had plenty of "slacker" types and whatever. But something about the atmosphere made it easy to think: I'm at school now, let's just get the work done.

The only thing I hate is BAD school uniforms. I see some places with like, brown pants and a striped shirt...and it just looks frumpy. I went to school in a suit everyday, and I looked GOOD.

I think that school uniforms are good for Jr and High School because that's where people get made fun of the most.

I mean when you are all wearing the same thing, people will kind of lay off what you start to wear and will stop judging you by what you wear and something else instead.

But School uniforms aren't that bad because you can be creative with them also!

Lilli 241.8 week(s) ago
I think that school unifroms are a bad thing because adults take away a whole bunch of are freedom. This is one way that we can decide what we wnat to wear. So if you like to wear baggy things u can wear baggy things. If you like really tight things you can weat that. This is one way we can express ourselves and show how we can shine in our own personal ways. Also, some people are very comfortable in specific outfits do they don't feel presured if they're taking a test and it's easier to consentrate. Other people might to better on academic things in other types of clothing. I think we should be able to decide what we want to wear.
Amen to that!

"This is one way we can express ourselves and show how we can shine in our own personal ways."

Anyone that needs clothes to shine in their "own personal ways" does not shine brightly enough.

"Also, some people are very comfortable in specific outfits do they don't feel presured if they're taking a test and it's easier to consentrate."

It's a good thing you will always be able to wear whatever you want once you graduate.

Baggy clothes for life, right?

I mean...you wouldn't want to feel pressured in front of a big client. Or when you are defending someone in court. Or are performing surgery. Or working construction (this hat is pressuring me!). Or you're working at McDonalds.

Seriously...is your brain going to fall out of your ears the moment you put on coveralls to go work in an auto repair shop? Or when you put on nylons under your skirt when you're CEO of a big company?

SUCK IT UP, People! If nothing else, wearing something like that now will make it less distracting for you when you get a job.

i think uniforms can be good cause there will be no more discrimination between poor and rich (we can see that on the clothes) or .. there will be no more "war" between gothiks and "rappeurs"

i can't explain myself easily T_T

Tway 235.0 week(s) ago

quill18 233.7 week(s) ago
Amore - to paraphrase something I said above: Anyone that needs special clothes to be unique is not very unique at all.

Kalie_daughter_of_Lune 230.5 week(s) ago
Japenese uniforms = Wonderful!
Brithish uniforms = Geek, geek geek!(Worst of all).

perfectandpretty 225.7 week(s) ago
quill18.

chill.

the thing is. the people who would be wearing these uniforms are not adults. Therefore, still have time to figure out who they are and represent their personalities with their clothing. Ok?? Once we get REAL jobs and go through college (not neccessarily in that order) kids will mature more, making them ok with wearing a uniform and still being who they are. Besides, what's wrong with adding flair to a uniform??

kreli19 225.7 week(s) ago
first, clothes do not always show creativity or uniqueness unless you make them yourself [[which not many people do]]. so somewhere someone might or probably is wearing the same clothes as you. and most people wear clothes based on trends and what other people like and not what they like themselves.

the bad thing about uniforms is that many people can not always afford them because of family issues or low income or other things.

and everyone gets judge on what they wear no matter what. and if they are wearing a uniform, they will judge on hair, or something else that is equally stupid.

some people may not be comfortable in uniforms. if you are uncomfortable, it is hard to concentrate on quizzes, tests, exams, or whatever you are doing.

I voted that they are bad.

Retade 225.6 week(s) ago
Uniform? Why do you need that? Nobody's teasing others at my school. I hope... xDD

Retade 225.6 week(s) ago
And I don't like uniforms couse they're booooring :\

Zhellas 225.5 week(s) ago
Depends on what they look like.

DancingChaos 225.2 week(s) ago
I don't like uniforms. After wearing uniforms for your entire life, you really won't know how to dress later on. Those job interviews are bound to be trouble.

Retade 225.2 week(s) ago
Even if they'd look cool all class or school would be wearing the same clothes. And that's sooooooo boooooring |\\

Some of us had parents with no taste in clothing. Some of us had no control over what we ended up wearing. Also, different economic class becomes very clear at times, with negative lasting results; I can not be comfortable with pants showing socks due to "highwaters" being a sign of being poor as a child.

Uniforms level the playing field. Everyone wears the same thing, so who you are is more based on character than appearance; while I would have been unhappy in some ways about wearing a school uniform as a kid, looking back it would have removed some of the visual triggers which led to my being tormented through junior high.

I agree that a _nice_ uniform would be desired; if everyone dresses the same, make everyone look sharp, yes?

Isayhi 187.5 week(s) ago
quill18 I think you're kinda a retard.

For one, people don't nessicarily need clothes to shine as uniqe, but when you first see someone you don't know them at all and if you want people to see you as you are YOU HAVE TO dress the part. Like I said, you first meet someone you don't know who they are or anything about them and you won't get to know most people it's a "Hey I know you, you have this class with me and I'll ask you a question once every 2 months."

2, yes you can wear whatever you want once you get out of school. Even if you work in some big high end office you still have a choice. Yes, you do HAVE TO wear dressier clothes, but you have the choice of what clothes. Do you want to wear black dress pants with a red silk top, power suit, skirt w/e. In every feild you have a choice of exactly what you want to wear.

And no, you are right people 'brains won't fall out.' But people who are uncomfortable in what they're wearing tend to have trouble concentrating because they're too busy feeling self concise.

And as far as distraction from a real job, even if they couldn't wear something of their choice which they can, anyone who would be distracted by that isn't going to have close to the intelligence to get a job where they might have to follow some rules about dress.

kd7mvs clothes do point out social class but there is no dress code to life so if someone's poor, I'm sorry but they're going to be just as alienated in real life as school. They'll have to learn to deal with it. Life's not fair and it's not a level playing feild and you can't make it that way. People are different and until that changes you can't do ANYTHING to that will make the world close to fair and I just don't see the people of the world comforming. And I'm sorry but, no one should be comfortable in highwater because they're ugly and don't fit right.

lalabubblegum most places that have uniforms you can't alter them in anyway or have accsecories. Most places it's one piercing in the ear and there is a limit to how big th eearring you can wear is. Plus like I said above the world is not fair or nice. People need to learn how to deal with it. I don't know about you but I don't wanna listen to a bunch of people complain because they got called a name! Oh my gosh! You poor thing!

------

Clothes are a representation of who you are and you will be judged by them and regaurdless of what they say EVERYONE judges people by their clothes, and if you say you don't you are liar.

Why do you think you have to dress nicely for interveiws??? ^^^Right up there, clothes matter and you will be judged.

Obvioulsy I said bad.

Le Miserly 185.4 week(s) ago
I would say they're good. That way, no one can really be separated by fact of race, grade level, or grades.

Cinta 184.9 week(s) ago
I would say they're good. You cannot be teased for the clothes you wear. I never have much to say =PI thought most people would say no -_-

Klemar 183.9 week(s) ago
If you want to go to the stars, keep the uniforms. If you want to chill on the ground, take them off and begin frolicking. All we're gonna do is find more ground.. so.. I say chill.

caitie 179.7 week(s) ago
i think clothes express your individuality. youu dont need them to shine, but just to make youu feel like youu.

AhWahNah 178.7 week(s) ago
If a school does have uniforms then no one would tease you about your clothes or make fun of you. But on the other hand, clothes express who you are and what you're about.

YayMomoe 101.6 week(s) ago
I like uniforms, mostly cuz I think they look cute. xD

XkirstiX 54.8 week(s) ago
I have always wore school uniforms XD

YourAngelOfMusic 53.3 week(s) ago
Ughh. School uniforms bring away all of the individuality a student would otherwise possess. They're also not the cutest things to look at...

ismichi 44.7 week(s) ago
They aren't necessarily bad as they aren't necessarily bad.
With uniforms, admins can note who is breaking the rules (dress code-wise) and not be as subjective in judging. They also allow kids to not tease another for clothes as shoes and socks are usually chosen (types), as well.
However, once the child is out of school (at leas the one with uniforms), he will start having to decide on clothes to wear. A friend of mine stated how hard the challenge from going to high school (uniform) to college (no uniform) was, the main priority consisting of having to have enough clothes suitable for a school environment and having enough for the week (would have to change everyday; wear different clothes).
I don't think it's much of an "individuality" thing because you go to school to study, not present an individual. A school is an environment where students may be individuals, but they should concentrate more on their studies than their appearance. It was all too common for classmates (mostly females) to be doing their hair, make up, and talking about fashion during class; how is this necessary in school? Yes, I think schools with uniforms have these same issues, but perhaps it's not as common as the school I went to.
